A pipe coating and marking line gives finished steel pipes a protective coat and their marking. Line pipe and oil country tubular goods receive here, for example, the information required by API standards.
Design and function
The pipes pass through the line one by one on a roller table while rotating. In the booth spray nozzles apply the coating to the outside, and overspray is extracted. The coating then cures in air, with heat or with UV light.
The marking station applies the marking by stencil, inkjet or dot peen, and where required coloured bands as a colour code. Which information must appear where is governed by the applicable standard in its current edition. The data come from the plant’s production system.
Where it is used
Such lines stand at the end of pipe production, after inspection and hydrostatic testing. They work with solvents or UV coatings and are subject to the rules for extraction and explosion protection.
