A straightening machine makes rolled bars, sections, tubes or plates straight. The stock passes between offset rolls and is bent back and forth several times.
Design and function
The rolls sit in an upper and a lower row, staggered. At the entry the bending is strong; towards the exit it decreases until the stock comes out straight. Some rolls are driven, the others run along.
For sections and tubes the straightening rolls carry the matching contour. Round material is also straightened in cross-roll machines, in which the bar rotates as it passes. The rolls can be adjusted in height and partly sideways.
Where it is used
Straightening machines stand in the finishing area of rolling mills and drawing shops, in tube mills and in plate processing. The rolls wear at the contour and are re-turned or replaced.
