Wire and thread guides are eyelets, bushings, tubes and rollers made of technical ceramic. They steer running wire or thread without damaging its surface.
Design and function
The main materials are aluminium oxide and zirconium oxide. Both are very hard and wear slowly. The surface of the guide matters: polished, it protects bare wire; a fine texture reduces friction with threads and enamelled wire.
The guides are glued, pressed or clamped into holders. They are available as standard parts in many sizes and as special parts made to drawing or sample.
Where it is used
Ceramic guides are fitted to pay-offs, stranding machines, spoolers, winding machines and enamelling lines. A grooved or broken guide shows as scoring on the wire or as abrasion dust.
