In food plants, a spare part must not only fit but also be easy to clean. Materials and lubricants must not endanger the product.

What matters
Hygienic components have smooth surfaces, no gaps or dead spaces where residues collect, and are usually made of stainless steel such as 1.4404. EN 1672-2 and the EHEDG guidelines provide the basis. Seals in the product area need a declaration of compliance for food contact.
Where lubricant can come into contact with food, lubricants with H1 registration for incidental, technically unavoidable contact are used. Bearings, gearboxes and chains are then supplied with H1 lubricant ex works or during maintenance.
What a request for food plants should contain
- installation in the product area or outside
- required material and surface roughness
- declaration of compliance for food contact
- H1 lubrication for bearings, gearboxes or chains
- cleaning method and cleaning agents
