A geared motor is a drive unit made up of an electric motor and an attached gear unit. The gear unit lowers the high speed of the motor and in return raises the torque at the output shaft.
Design and function
Depending on the type, the output shaft is in line with the motor or at a right angle to it. Helical and parallel shaft gear units are straight; bevel and worm gear units turn the drive through 90 degrees. The motor often carries a brake that holds the drive when it is switched off.
The nameplate states power, voltage, speed, ratio, mounting position and degree of protection. The drive runs directly on the mains or on a frequency inverter, which adjusts the speed steplessly.
Where it is used
Geared motors drive conveyor belts, agitators, mixers, dosing units and packaging machines. In areas with wet cleaning, the degree of protection, surface and lubricant matter; such requirements should be stated in the request.
