The hydraulic pump turns the rotation of the motor into an oil flow. If it fails, the plant stops. Besides the design, a handful of ratings matter for the replacement.

The main designs

Gear pumps are robust and economical and deliver a fixed volume per revolution. Vane pumps run quietly and are also available as variable pumps. Axial and radial piston pumps reach the highest pressures and are often used as variable pumps with pressure or power control.

For the replacement, displacement in cubic centimetres per revolution, maximum operating pressure, direction of rotation, speed range, mounting flange, shaft end and ports matter. For variable pumps the controller version is added.

What a request for a hydraulic pump should contain

  • pump nameplate, for variable pumps also the controller
  • displacement, operating pressure and direction of rotation
  • flange, shaft end and port sizes
  • drive motor with speed
  • quantity and requested delivery date
