Hose assemblies age even when they still look good from outside. A burst hose means downtime, oil loss and danger. That is why marking and age are worth a look.

What hose and fitting show

The hose usually carries its type, for example 1SN or 2SN for hoses with one or two wire braid layers, the nominal size and the permitted operating pressure. The crimped fitting often states the date of manufacture of the hose assembly.

For the replacement, length, connection thread and sealing type of the fittings, such as a 24° cone, as well as angle position and protective sleeve also matter. The guidance DGUV Regel 113-020 gives six years including at most two years of storage as a guide value for normal demands, and two years for increased demands such as multi-shift operation or short cycle times. The maker’s instructions and your own risk assessment are decisive.

What a request for hose assemblies should contain

  • type, nominal size and operating pressure of the hose
  • total length and fittings at both ends
  • angle position for bent fittings
  • protective sleeve or bend protection, if needed
  • quantity and requested delivery date
