Modular belts consist of many plastic modules hinged together by rods. They are common in the food industry because they are robust and easy to clean.

Structure and wear

Modular belts are driven positively by sprockets and therefore do not slip. Depending on the application, there are closed or open surfaces, flights and side guards. Common materials are polypropylene, polyethylene and polyacetal with different temperature and chemical resistance.

Wear shows as worn hinges, an elongated belt and worn sprocket teeth. Damaged modules can be replaced individually. With strong elongation, belt and sprockets should be renewed together so that they mesh properly.

What a request for modular belts should contain

  • belt series or pitch and surface type
  • belt width and length
  • material and colour
  • sprockets: number of teeth, bore or square
  • accessories such as flights and hinge rods
