Sooner or later every component is discontinued. For maintenance this does not automatically mean that the machine must be replaced. Usually there is a successor, a compatible alternative or remaining stock.

Which options there are

Many makers name a direct successor for discontinued types. It often fits electrically and mechanically but may have different connections, new firmware or changed dimensions. These differences should be checked before the swap.

Without a successor, equivalent parts from other suppliers, refurbished used parts or, for mechanical parts, remanufacturing to drawing are options. For safety-related parts, equivalence must be proven.

What a request for a discontinued part should contain

  • full type designation and photo of the nameplate
  • use in the machine and connected components
  • whether a successor with changes is acceptable
  • whether used or refurbished parts are an option
  • quantity, including for stock
